Newer homes on the edge of town
Faverdale falls in the Brinkburn and Faverdale ward. In the 2021 Census about half its homes were semi-detached and just over a quarter (26%) were detached, and about 41% of households had two or more cars, one of the higher figures in Darlington. West Park village, built on land next to Faverdale, adds streets of newer detached and semi-detached houses with garages and double-width frontages.

Upgrading a builder's drive
New estates are usually finished quickly, and the drive is rarely the builder's priority. A thin layer of tarmac or small concrete pavers over a shallow base is common. Within a few years it can dip where the car stands or puddle by the door.
When owners upgrade, we usually suggest lifting the old drive and building a proper base rather than laying over it. Resin bound in a natural or silver blend suits modern brick and render. Block paving in grey or charcoal gives a crisp edge, and pattern imprinted concrete appeals if you want one solid slab with no joints for weeds.

Adopted roads and verges
On the newest streets the road, footpath and verges may not yet be adopted by Darlington Borough Council. Until they are, they belong to the developer, and widening a crossing means asking the developer rather than the council. Once a road is adopted, the council's normal vehicle access process applies. We check which applies before any design is drawn.
The ground at Faverdale
The British Geological Survey maps the area on glacial till, a firm clay. Bigger plots mean bigger areas of hard surface, so it matters where the water goes. We lay drives to fall towards a border, a soakaway or a drain, or use a permeable surface so rain soaks straight through.
Questions people ask
Is it worth replacing a builder's drive?
If it has dipped, cracked or puddles, yes. A new base and surface last far longer than another patch over a thin one.
What surfaces suit a modern Faverdale house?
Resin bound, grey or charcoal block paving, and pattern imprinted concrete all suit newer brick and render.
Who approves a wider crossing on a new street?
If the road is adopted, Darlington Borough Council. If not, the developer who still owns it.
