Questions people ask
Is the quote free?
Yes. We visit, measure up, look at the ground and drainage, and give you a quote. There is no charge and no obligation to go ahead.
How do I ask for a quote?
Ring us on 01325 808613 or use the short form on any page. We will call you back to arrange a visit.
Which areas do you cover?
Darlington's DL1, DL2 and DL3 postcodes, from the West End and Cockerton out to Whinfield and Eastbourne, plus Hurworth, Middleton St George and Heighington.
Which surface should I choose?
It depends on the house, the space and how much upkeep you want. Our comparison guide sets out the differences, and we are happy to talk it through on the visit.
Do I need planning permission for a drive?
Not usually, if the surface is permeable or drains to a lawn or border. More than five square metres of impermeable surface draining onto the road does need it. See our planning guide.
Do I need permission for a dropped kerb?
Yes, always. Darlington Borough Council either builds the crossing or licenses it, and a licence can take up to ten weeks.
How long does the work take?
Most drives take a few days on site. Larger drives, steps, walls and drainage add time. We give you a realistic timescale with the quote.
Why does the ground matter so much in Darlington?
Much of the town sits on glacial clay, which moves with wet and dry weather. A deep, well-compacted base and fixed edging stop a drive sinking.
Can you lay a new surface over my old drive?
Sometimes. Resin bound and tarmac can go over a sound, level base. A cracked, sunken or rocking drive needs digging out first.
When can I drive on it?
It depends on the surface. Block paving and gravel can usually be used straight away; resin, tarmac and concrete need time to cure or harden, and we will tell you exactly how long.
Do you do patios too?
Yes. See our patios and garden paving page.
